This article describes the UF Printing Lab’s use by the University of Florida and the use case for the service.

We also present use cases we observe with the university’s 2D printing service, demonstrating the potential of 3D printing to support our university’s teaching and research tasks. The paper presents the 3D printing services to a wide range of students, faculty, and the general public.

We have seen a dramatic increase in interest in using 3D-printed models for teachers at a local high school to explain complex topics and concepts. • Purchasing printers for the educational Library.
  • Purchasing a printer that uses soluble filaments.
  • Exploring the ventilation needed by our growing printer fleet.
  • Other units could also explore developing a 3D printing lab and seek to share staff time and resources. This includes workshops to introduce students to printing and successful model development, and increased marketing to promote printing in the coursework.

The air conditioning level depends on the printer material and size, and the ventilation requirements for one or two printers can vary significantly from those required for a printer fleet. We found that placing printers in the appropriate place is crucial for successful printing.
